1 week
– Each student works individually;
– Make a brief overview of the theoretical part and proceed with the practical;
– Before starting the experimental part, familiarize and provide the students with all the necessary materials.
Safety in Steam Lessons
Before starting a lesson, the teacher is advised to familiarize himself with the safety precautions. If necessary (in the case of using the items specified in the TB), conduct a brief briefing for students. Follow this link Safety in Steam Lessons
Theoretical part
Plants and animals are part of a single living nature. They have many differences, but in this tutorial, we will talk about one of them. One of the main differences is the type of food. Plants feed on substances obtained from the soil and can independently synthesize nutrients for their growth using solar energy. That is, they also create oxygen, and then they breathe it. And for animals, plants are the food base. Animals also breathe oxygen, which means that animals are mainly dependent on plants. As an example, today we will learn more about caterpillars and their food.
The caterpillar is the basis of the butterfly. It develops from an egg. The body consists of a head and several thoracic and abdominal rings. The body of most caterpillars is covered with hairs and bristles. On the lower lip of the caterpillar, there is a gland, that, when in contact with air, releases a liquid that forms silk fibers. Caterpillars use it to build cocoons, create a protective net, attach leaves, etc.

Caterpillars in the process of development, intensively feeding, turn into pupae. Many feeds on leaves and flowers. Caterpillars are mainly pests of agriculture and forestry, horticulture, and agriculture. But there are also predatory species of caterpillars that destroy garden ants and provide invaluable help to people. In addition, silk fibers are obtained from the cocoon of silkworm caterpillars, oak, etc. Silk fabric is made from it.
Practical part
Step 1. First, take cardboard paper, draw a sheet and cut it out.

Step 2. Cut out a long rectangle from cardboard and trace it around the stick.

Step 3. We fix it with glue, then glue it to the sheet.

Step 4. Cut off the hair band.

Step 5 Cut off a small piece of rubber to make a caterpillar head.

Step 6. We attach one end of the gum to the stick with glue.

Step 7. We pass the stick through the tube on the petal and fix the other end of the gum with glue on the tube.

Step 8 Glue the pre-prepared caterpillar head to the top of the rubber. Cut out caterpillar eyes from the paper and glue them to the head.

Step 9 Using scissors, cut out a few small pieces from the leaf so that the petal resembles a bitten leaf. You can decorate the caterpillar as you wish.

The caterpillar is ready!
– What body do caterpillars have?
– What does a caterpillar eat?
– Do caterpillars harm or benefit people?
In this project, each student will be awarded a STEAM title in two categories:
– You independently explored the caterpillar and explained the difference between plants and animals, you are a real scientist – a future biologist!
– You made an incredibly beautiful caterpillar with your own hands, you are a real artist!
Evaluation
PBL grading criterion:
Project-based learning is a learning method in which students acquire knowledge and skills by working on a single project to explore and answer a genuine, interesting, and complex question, problem, or challenge.
