Week 2

A game of guessing another pupil’s birthday.

After the students have shown their birthdays through the light bulbs, play a birthday guessing game with them. Call students to the board and give them a sheet with another student’s bulbs drawn on it. The pupils must guess the other pupils’ birthdays through the drawing.

Example.

The following picture shows the day and month of a pupil’s birth in computer language

To guess his birthday you must first write the numbers 16, 8, 4, 2, 1 in a row, separated by a space.

Next, the numbers that the bulbs point to (the yellow bulb points to 1, the one that is not lit points to 0) must be written under the numbers on the board in the right-to-left direction. First write for the top bulbs:

On the next line, write for the lower bulbs (from right to left):

Rewrite the numbers at the top with 1 under them and put a “+” between them

8 + 2

4 + 2

If we find the result, we obtain the day and the month of the student’s birth

8 + 2 = 10

4 + 2 = 6

That is, the student was born on the 10th of the 6th month.

Conclusion

In this project, the students improved their understanding of the topic of operations on numbers. They have also learned about the basic principle of computers and the binary number system.
