Lesson 1
Project objective
– Make a composition out of simple shapes;
– Compare and classify geometric shapes.
Teacher’s guide
– Divide the students into groups. There should be 5 students in each group.
– Explain what geometric shapes are.
– In the first week, students will begin making shapes.
– In the second week they will make a composition of a house out of shapes.
– Familiarise and provide pupils with all the necessary materials before beginning the experimental part.
Safety in Steam lessons
It is recommended that the teacher is familiar with the safety procedures before the lesson begins. If necessary (in the case of items specified in the PPE guidelines), brief the students. Go to Safety in Steam lessons
Theoretical part
The basic geometric shapes in the plane are a point and a straight line. And the simplest shapes are a ray, a segment and a broken line.
The minimum object in geometry is a point. Its peculiarity is that it has no dimensions: it has no height, length or radius. It is only possible to determine the position of a point, which is indicated by a single capital letter of the Latin alphabet. A set of points can form a line and several lines connected to each other can form geometric shapes.
Geometric bodies are a part of space that is bounded by a closed surface of its outer boundary.
If all points of the figure belong to the same plane then it is flat.
Three-dimensional figure is a geometric figure that does not have all points on the same plane.
Examples of three-dimensional geometric figures:
- a sphere – шар
- cone – конус
- square – квадрат
- rectangle – прямоугольник
- cylinder – цилиндр
- triangle – треугольник

Practical part of the work
Step 1. First draw a drawing of a square. The size of the square should be 6×6 cm

Step 2. Making the cube from the video
Step 3. Draw a door and windows on the cube to make it look like a house. Cut out a 8×5 cm roof from paper and glue on top of the cube

Step 4. Make a cylinder by cutting out 8x2cm paper. Roll up our paper to make a cylinder. Fix the cylinder to the roof with plasticine. The cylinder will be like a chimney

Step 5. Draw a circle with a compass and cut it out. The circle should be yellow because it will be like the sun
