Lesson 2

  1. The largest Ferris wheel in the world – HighRoller in Las Vegas (height 167 m), opened to visitors on March 31, 2014.
  2. The SingaporeFlyer Ferris wheel in Singapore (165 m) was the largest Ferris wheel in the world in 2007-2014.
  3. Nanchang Star – height 160 m, located in Nanchang (China). The third highest in the world.
  4. The London Eye is 135 m high; it was the largest in the world in 2000-2006, before the opening of the Nanchang Star wheel. Currently it remains the fourth highest in the world and the largest in Europe.
  5. The largest Ferris wheel of the classical type in the world: Fukuoka Heavenly Dream, installed in the Japanese city of Fukuoka; diameter – 112 m, total height – 120 m.
  6. The 90-meter Eurovil wheel in the Mirabilandia amusement Park (Italy) was erected in 1999; it was the largest in Europe before the opening of the London Eye. Before that, the largest in Europe was the Moscow Wheel named after the 850th anniversary of Moscow (height 73 m, diameter 70 m; opened in 1995, dismantled in 2016).
  7. The Paris Ferris Wheel is one of the largest mobile Ferris wheels. Height – 60 m . It does not require a permanent foundation, as stability is provided by ballast tanks with water with a volume of 40 thousand liters. For the first time this wheel was mounted in Paris on the eve of the millennium celebration. In 2003, the wheel was moved to Birmingham, where it remained until February of the following year, after which it was moved to Manchester. After that, the wheel returned to the European continent again. In the summer of 2005, it was installed in Amsterdam.
  8. The Ferris wheel in the city park of Pripyat is one of the symbols of the Chernobyl exclusion zone. This wheel has never been used, as it was supposed to open on May 1, 1986, that is, five days after the accident.
  9. The Ferris wheel in Izmailovsky Park of Culture and Recreation is the oldest (1958) operating in Moscow.
  10. The Ferris wheel in Ashgabat is the largest closed-type Ferris wheel in the world (47.6 m).

The practical part of the work

This week, make booths and learn how to connect LED bulbs correctly.

Step 1.  We take cardboard and cross out the size of 5×5 cm for the base and roof of the cabin, for the edges of the cabins we also cross out the size of 5×2 cm.

Step 2. From the juice tubes we make a column in order to hold the roof of the cabin. We cut off the tubes with a size of 3cm, and one with a size of 5 cm.

Step 3.  A tube with a size of 5 cm is glued to the roof, we hold a skewer inside the tube so that our cabin connects to the wheel. We make only 8 such cabinets.

Step 4. Cut out a circle of cardboard with a diameter of 20 cm. And we insert LED lamps into the cardboard, as shown in the picture

Step 5. Before connecting, you need to know:

1) A new LED, as a rule, has two outputs (legs), one of which is slightly longer than the other. The long lead is the anode (+).  The short output is the cathode (-). Touching the anode to the plus, and the cathode to the minus, a serviceable emitting diode will glow. Example in the picture

Step 6. We take a copper wire, connect the bulbs as in the picture. We open the terminals (legs) of the LEDs (for example, anodes +, to the center, cathodes (-) from the center) so that the cathode and anode do not intersect when connecting
