Lesson 1
Project Goals
– Give examples of the movement of various bodies at different speeds;
– Make a cinema with a conveyor belt;
– Pay attention to creative skills.
Teacher’s Guide
– Divide students into groups;
– During the practical part, the students have to come up with their own story and show it in the film.
Safety in Steam Lessons
Before starting a lesson, the teacher is advised to familiarize himself with the safety precautions. If necessary (in the case of using the items specified in the TB), conduct a brief briefing for students. Follow this link Safety in Steam Lessons
Theoretical part
Look around and remember all the moving bodies around. Cars, planes, trains, people, animals, insects, birds, etc. As we can see, they all move at different speeds, one is faster, and the other is slower. Moving bodies can have different speeds. Velocity determines the path that an object will cover in a unit of time (for example, 1 second or 1 hour).
Practical part
Step 1. Make a box out of cardboard of three sheets of cardboard. Use one sheet as the bottom, divide the other two in half and use them as four walls. Using hot glue, connect the walls so that the box comes out as in the photo.

Step 2. Divide a sheet of cardboard in half lengthwise and make a cylinder like a napkin sleeve using hot melt adhesive.

Step 3. Run the end of the sleeve cylinder over the cardboard sheet 4 times. Then cut out each circle.

Step 4. Make a hole in the center of each of the circles using skewers.

Step 5. Use hot glue to glue the circles to the ends of each of the tubes.

Step 6. It’s time to come up with a story and put it on paper. Let’s prepare the tape first. Divide the A4 paper in half along the length and connect it with glue so that a long ribbon comes out.

Step 7. Now transfer the story to paper. For example, there will be a family in a car that happily travels around a new city. Let’s draw a landscape on the tape. And on a piece of other paper, draw a character and cut it out. Each group should have a different story.

Step 8 Wrap the tape with the background image around the tubes and glue the ends of the paper with glue.

Step 9. The paper should be pulled as tight as possible. Insert the skewers by making holes opposite each other on the box as in the photo.

Step 10. Use hot glue to glue the skewers to both ends of the sleeve so that the skewer and sleeve rotate together as one.

Step 11 Poke a skewer through the bottom center of the box. Glue your main character onto the stick using hot glue. You may need to hot glue it in place.

You are now ready to watch your movie! Just turn the skewers in one direction. To watch your movie backward, turn them the other way!
In this project, each student will be awarded a STEAM title in two categories:
– You managed to build a film box with a conveyor belt, you are a real engineer!
– You created a story from your imagination and made an animated film, you are a real screenwriter and director!
Evaluation
PBL grading criterion:
Project-based learning is a learning method in which students acquire knowledge and skills by working on a single project to explore and answer a genuine, interesting, and complex question, problem, or challenge.
