Lesson 1

Teacher’s Guide

– Work in pairs;
– First, the students have to draw pictures on the file;
– Then you need to make a paper lantern to illuminate the drawn drawings.

Project Goals

– Distinguish artificial light sources;
– Understand the importance of artificial light sources.

Theoretical part

We need artificial light sources for a comfortable life. Artificial light sources were invented by people. Since ancient times, people have kindled a fire and made torches to get light. Then they used wax candles, and oil candles on dishes. Now there is electricity and we cannot imagine life without these light sources. Light on the streets is essential for safety. We also use artificial light sources for entertainment and decoration. For example, a lighthouse, a flashlight, a traffic light, car headlights, house chandeliers, etc.

Practical part

In the practical part of the lesson, we will make one of the most necessary sources of artificial lighting in our daily life – a flashlight. But this is no ordinary flashlight. We will make it out of paper and illuminate the world we have imagined. In this lesson, we will make the space of a fictional world. And next week we will make the lantern itself and try to use it.

Step 1. Take a stationery file and cut out one side.

Step 2 Place white paper inside.

Step 3. Draw whatever you want on the file with a felt-tip pen. It can be the underwater world, space, nature, or your home.

Step 4. Then place the black (dark) paper inside the file.

Ready. Now we have darkness, you can draw something else according to your fantasies on the back of the file.

Step 5 Draw a lantern on white paper.

Step 6. Cut it out.

Step 7 Now you can use it. Move the lantern inside the file and it will illuminate your drawing like a real lantern illuminates our path.

Conclusion

In this project, students learned about artificial light sources. We made a magic lantern and saw how important artificial light sources are in the dark.

Evaluation

PBL grading criterion:
