Lesson 1
Project Goals
– Creation of an architectural project in Kazakh national motifs;
– Drawing projections in three types;
– 3D modeling in SketchUp.
Teacher’s Guide
– Divide students into groups;
– In the first week, the teams must come up with the design of an architectural structure, according to their imagination;-
– In the second week it is necessary to draw three different projections of the same building;
– In the third week, a 3D model of the building will be created and its small-sized model will be printed on a 3D printer;
– Do not forget about homework at the end of each lesson;
– Provide PBL rubrics to students to:
– the students understood in advance what criteria they need to prepare for,
– students were able to independently evaluate their colleagues.
Safety in Steam Lessons
Before starting a lesson, the teacher is advised to familiarize himself with the safety precautions. If necessary (in the case of using the items specified in the TB), conduct a brief briefing for students. Go to the link Safety in Steam Lesson
Theoretical part
Travelers, no matter where they are in the world, pay attention to the features of ancient and modern local architecture. It has long been noticed that each country has its special preferences in the choice of roofing materials. This is especially noticeable in the example of private houses. For example, in some countries of Southern and Central Europe, as well as in Japan, ceramic tiles or their modern substitutes are widely used. Bitumen-based sheet coverings are common in Africa. And the Scandinavians use metal tiles everywhere. It is very important to have architectural masterpieces that make each territory stand out.
Modern architects, when designing in each country, strive to create a unique work by studying this region’s history, customs, and traditions. For example, the design competition for the new Ethiopian Parliament building was won by the Dutch architectural firms treurniet Architectuur and Michiel Clercx Architectuur in collaboration with the Ethiopian companies Addis Mebratu and S7 Architects PLC.

The architects aimed to showcase the ethnic diversity of Ethiopia in these buildings. To do this, they decided to make the building in the form of traditional non-granite drums.

Practical part
In the practical part, each group needs to come up with the desired design of the building. Design requirements: the presence of Kazakh national motifs or involvement in a historically significant event or elements that reflect the characteristics of our culture. Be sure to have the name of the building, the purpose of construction, and the value of the elements.
1. Take a pen and paper. What building are you building? What will be the design? You can get inspired by the internet.
2. Take a photo. For example, a library building is built in the shape of a book. In place of the crust – a Kazakh ornament of the “shynzhyr” type. This refers to the type of geometric ornament. Geometric ornaments form beveled squares, zigzags, three corners, and many corners. Elements of ornaments are quadrangular, square, and star-shaped. Seeing him, anyone will feel that he is in Kazakhstan.

Homework
The design of the building must be completed by drawing a picture.
