Paying for electricity
In this lesson, students calculate the payment for electricity. It is recommended to do the calculations on a worksheet. The power consumption of different lighting fixtures (incandescent bulb, energy-saving bulb, LED bulb) is taken into account. After the instructions, as an example, it is shown how to calculate the amount of payment for electricity for the city of Astana.
Step 1. Determine the electricity tariff in your region and record it in the “Given” part of the worksheet.

Step 2. Take the lamp in your hand and find its wattage consumption. It is usually written on the glass or bottom of the lamp. It is displayed as a number and in units of watts or W, depending on the country of manufacture.
Step 3. Write the wattage of all three lamps in the “Given” section.

Step 4. Write down on the worksheet how long you calculate the energy consumed: 2 hours.
Step 5. Formula for calculating appliance energy:
Calculate the electrical energy for each bulb in the solution section using the formula.
Step 6. Formula to calculate the price of energy consumed:
Calculate the price of energy consumed separately for each lamp using the formula. Record the calculation in the “Solution” section.
Step 7. Write the price of energy consumed for each lamp in the “Answer” section.

During the practical work, students successfully combined two important aspects related to electricity: creating a traffic light based on LEDs and calculating the cost of electricity consumption. This work is a great way to demonstrate and understand the importance of efficient electricity management in everyday life.
